Procreate Illustration: Best Tutorials & Workflow Optimization

I’ve been deep in Procreate lately, working through illustration projects, and I realized I’ve never really systematized my learning. I pick up techniques here and there, watch random tutorials, but I don’t have a clear progression.

Here’s where I’m at:
I’m solid on the fundamentals (brushes, layers, basic anatomy), but I want to level up on digital-specific techniques and workflow optimization. Procreate is powerful enough that I know I’m probably missing shortcuts and features.

What I’ve learned works:

  • Kyle Webster’s brushes and some of his tutorials are fantastic
  • Official Procreate tutorials are underrated — actually well-paced
  • YouTube channels focused on digital illustration give the best technique breakdowns
  • Following other artists’ process videos teaches more than static tutorials sometimes

My questions:

  • What’s the best Procreate tutorial resource you’ve found? Free or paid, doesn’t matter
  • Are there specific techniques that changed your workflow? (I’m thinking things like layer management, clipping masks, blending modes, selection techniques)
  • How do you practice? Do you follow along with tutorials, or do you set projects and problem-solve?
  • Any workflow hacks that aren’t immediately obvious to new Procreate users?

I’m also curious about the learning curve from traditional to digital illustration — if that’s been anyone’s journey, I’d love to hear about it. Sometimes the hardest part isn’t learning the tool, it’s retraining your brain to work digitally.
