Free Resources Every Graphic Designer Should Know About

I’m always shocked how many designers I meet who haven’t discovered the free resources available to them. Building a toolkit doesn’t have to drain your budget — there are genuinely high-quality free assets out there if you know where to look.

Where I get my free assets:

Fonts:

  • Google Fonts (incredible variety, open source)
  • DaFont (trend-forward, personality-driven)
  • FontSpace (lesser-known gems)

Stock Photos & Images:

  • Unsplash (gorgeous photography)
  • Pexels (clean, professional imagery)
  • Pixabay (diverse collection)

Mockups & Templates:

  • Freepik’s free section (tons of layered files)
  • Placeit’s free tier (decent mockup options)
  • Design community libraries

Brushes & Textures:

  • Brushes from established digital artists on Gumroad
  • Pixabay textures (surprisingly good)
  • DeviantArt free brush packs

Icons & Graphics:

  • Noun Project (searchable, consistent quality)
  • Feather Icons (minimal, clean)
  • Font Awesome (extensive icon library)

The catch: Free doesn’t mean low quality, but it does mean understanding licensing. Always read the terms, especially if you’re using these in client work.

What are your go-to free resources? Are there free tools or asset libraries that have been game-changers for your workflow? I’d love to build a more comprehensive list.
