I’ve been collecting Photoshop text styles and layer styles for years, and I wanted to start a thread about the best free resources because honestly, paying for these feels wasteful when there are solid free options out there.
Text styles especially save me hours on projects with heavy typography — once you have a solid library, it’s just click-and-apply. Layer styles are similar; a good metallic or glass effect can be reused constantly.
The challenge:
The free ones are scattered everywhere, quality is inconsistent, and some require installation in ways that aren’t immediately obvious. I’ve probably got about 50+ useful ones saved across different folders, but I know I’m missing good ones.
Here’s what I use:
- Adobe’s own free packs (surprisingly good and officially supported)
- Various designer-made collections on sites like brushloaders and fontbros
- Some older collections from retired design blogs (RIP design resources)
