## Question by Ola J., 2026-10-31

How do I check Content Credentials on an image? I have a folder of about forty scans and photos that a donor sent us as a download link, and some of them were supposedly made with editing tools that sign their output. I work in digital collections at a small museum, and before anything goes into the catalogue I want to know whether a signed record is attached and what it says.

I have tried two things so far. I right-clicked a file and opened its properties, which showed camera details on some files and nothing useful on others. I also took a screenshot of one picture in my browser and dropped that into a checker, which found nothing.

So what is the actual routine? Which file do I check, which tool reads the record, and how do I tell "no credential was ever attached" from "the credential was lost on the way to me"? I would like a method I can write into our ingest checklist.
